Warning, this process is for serious daters who are willing to put in the work. Not for the faint of heart! –SwipeFix

The Problem: You have terrible dating app photos

So, you woke up, opened up your Tinder or Bumble app, and realized your dating app photos suck a**. Just kidding. But yes. I’m sure you did. The age old question, how do you improve them? From what we have uncovered, Benjamin Franklin in 1782, when he was writing the declaration of independence, wrote “How the F*ck Shall thee get thy dating app photos for tinder cheaply “? Benjamin Franklin didn’t write the Declaration of Independence you say? Nevermind then, carry on.

Anyways, dating app photographers nowadays are charging upwards of $700-$1500 per photo session. Yes they will typically be high quality, have good locations planned out, and give you tips on your posing, style tips, and edit your photos for you. It can definitely save you some time and effort. But, it also costs a lot and you may or may not get good photos out of it. If you’re lucky you’ll get 5 photos you can use. Maybe you’ll get a bunch of photos that suck, you never know.

We realized this was a problem so started brainstorming. How can the average man (or woman) get cheap, easily accessible dating app photos. Well with a little ingenuity, and effort you can succeed at this. It may take a weekend or two of your time. But you can use the photos for the rest of your dating life if you want. Shockingly, many guys can use the same photos for 10-15 years (as long as you keep up with your health).

The usual answer doesn’t really work

Many dating coaches recommend just using a friend to help you take photos. Go out, and snap a few with your iPhone they say. If it’s this easy, why does no one do it? Well, that also takes planning, and planning from two parties which is extra difficult. You have to coordinate two schedules, take photos of your friend too (which takes extra time), and many times your friend is not really incentivized to get good pics of you. They don’t really care if you get good pics. There is no monetary incentive. Your friend is also busy. Let’s face it, most people don’t have the motivation to do better in dating or get good pics for Tinder. They are lazy and won’t make the time. Most people are “normal”. They don’t want to plan a weekend around taking pictures or improving their results in dating apps. They are happy with the status quo. But if you’re reading this, I know you aren’t. So what is the solution then?

Digging Deeper: Finding less expensive “talent” and managing them well

This is one of our philosophies at Swipefix actually. We find people that we can groom into amazing, talented, and expert “swipers” for our Swiping service. But, for dating app photos you can do the same. Many cities and small towns in the United States have local classified services such as www.craigslist.org. In California, this is a well trafficked website. What we recommend doing is posting an ad for $15-20 an hour “Dating app photography”. The best title we have tried is “Take pics of me $20/hour”. Simple? Lol, yes. It’s simple and effective. In one week, we received over 150 replies to this ad. Listen, everyone has a smart phone, lot of people have nothing to do, and are willing to come out for a couple hours and take photos of you for some cash (or Venmo).

SIDE NOTE: Do you want our exact TEMPLATE for the ad we posted for photographers? Warning, it’s not fancy, but we will send it to you for free, just click here to send us an email: Hey SwipeFix, send me your dating app photography ad template!. Antoher warning, we may also add you to our Super Secret Monthly Mailing List, where we send you
valuable, free dating tips, research, and cutting edge ideas.

Managing replies to your ad

You should receive quite a few replies to this ad. You may receive actual photographers replying too. Those are actually preferred. A lot of photographers are willing to take pics for cheap just for their portfolio or for practice. This ad attracts them, and they know that you won’t be paying top dollar. Also, many times they will have a digital camera they can use, and send you the photos later. So, with all your responses, dig through the them, see if they have any websites or examples of their work, and choose a photographer you like best. You may need to try to coordinate with a couple before you are able to get one to commit for a shoot. But once it’s scheduled it’s time to prepare.

Next steps to prepare for your shoot:

⚡ Schedule a 2-3 hour slot on a Saturday or Sunday.

⚡ Put together a duffel bag with a few shirts, pants, shorts, and 2-3 pairs of shoes to change into (you may have to change in public, who cares, get out of your comfort zone). If you need some new clothes, try H&M or even buy a bunch of stuff on Amazon, try them on and return what you don’t like.

⚡ Get a haircut and clean yourself up a bit.

⚡ Find a few outdoor venues in your area. Outdoor is typically a key to better photos. But to be honest it doesn’t really matter where they are. Find parks, restaurants with outdoor patios, cafes, or well known landmarks in your city. As long as the background has pretty good contrast, or is semi interesting that should work. Plants, and trees are good. Do some research on locations, think about bars, restaurants, places with outdoor patios. Find some parks. Find a grouping of them together you can walk park and walk to.

⚡ Google search “Male model poses” and remember some of these, or screenshot for reference during your shoot

The day of the shoot, and strategy during the shoot

Now, this is where it can get tricky. Since you likely don’t have a “pro photographer” you really have to keep on them and check on the photos after each that are snapped. You have to make sure they are taking a few hundred photos and just snapping a ton. It actually should get pretty fun after a while, and you should get into a rhythm with your photographer. But you really need to be analyzing the photos, check the phone, and seeing if you think you got a few good ones in each location. If you don’t think you got a couple good shots, keep trying. Don’t be concerned with telling the photographer to keep shooting you.

⚡ Give them your own phone to take the pics. Even if you have a “pro photographer” you can have them take pics from your phone too. That way you instantly have the photos when you get home to start doing some editing on.

⚡ Do a bunch of push ups before your photos, especially if you have some muscle. Again, don’t worry about looking dumb in public, just sacrifice for the photos.

⚡ Get creative with locations, have fun with it. Find backgrounds you think are interesting.

⚡ Before taking the pic, look around the location, is there a piece of trash in the picture? Is there something in the back that is distracting, like a mark on the wall? Find a better angle or clean it up. Details matter.

⚡ Smile, don’t smile, change your poses, look toward the camera, look away, change the angles of your face. It’s an opportunity to work on your pic taking. This is actually the hard part so try to work on your creativity here. Have fun with it, and usually the good pics will come out. This is why you need to take hundreds of pictures, because typically only a few will be good4

You did it, you got hundreds (or thousands) of pics, but how do you edit them quickly?

So you’ll have to start digging through all the pics from here and find the ones you think are best. On iPhone you can click the “heart” buttton on the pic on your faves. The app of choice at the moment to edit your pics is FaceApp, which has a small monthly fee. You can add some slight improvement to your face with this app without overdoing it with settings such as “hollywood”. You may want to use a site like photofeeler.com to check if girls think it is a good pic or not.

If you need help choosing your best pics, send us 5 pics, and we’ll choose the best one for you for free. Send us an email now. Yeah, for free. Who cares. Again, we are going to add you to our mailing list though. You can unsubscribe later if you don’t like the content. If you need help with more than 5 pics, you’re going to have to sign up for our service, and we definitely got you covered.

Mindset during the shoot

For many people taking pics is pretty awkward in general. It’s not a comfortable position to bein. Random people will likely be looking at you. You’re also meeting with a stranger to take the pics. It’s a lot of work and planning. Once you have completed the shoot, we will tell you, it will be worth it. You’ll have some solid pics which should improve your dating app matches, messages, and amount of dates immediately.
